Lean into the wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita to implement emotional, physical, and cognitive self-regulation tools to improve your daily life both as a teacher and student. We'll begin by creating a healthy foundation of detachment. Establishing boundaries allows you to build a thriving physical, personal, and professional life of nonattachment.

In this workshop, you'll learn:
  • The meaning of detachment

  • How you can apply this concept in your daily life

  • How to introduce detachment as a yoga teacher, plus how to connect it with poses and meditation

  • Why you don't need to be a scholar to teach yoga philosophy

Required Reading

1. Bhagavad Gita by Stephen Mitchell—This is the translation that will be used to lead discussion.

2. Potential self-regulatory mechanisms of yoga for psychological health (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4179745/)

Recommended Props: 2 blocks, yoga cushion or pillows

In 2009, the Sharma sisters, Cristal (left) and Pooja (right), founded Soul Power Yoga to empower, educate and evolve bodies, minds, and souls with the modern application of old traditions.  The sisters carry forward their family teachings in yoga, Ayurveda, meditation, Sanskrit, and philosophy while unabashedly sharing how their practice keeps them mindful during the ups and downs of chronic illness, fertility, motherhood, and more.

Cristal is a mom, studio founder, and accountant and is respected as a teacher’s teacher with her love of strategic sequencing blended with soulful inquiry to awaken your best self. She specializes in beginner to advanced practices, fertility yoga, pre/postnatal yoga, birth loss, and chronic illness groups. As a member of the NJ Yoga Collective Advisory Council, she is lending her voice in the actionable ways to improve diversity, accessibility, and accountability in our yoga community.

Pooja is a mom, studio founder, author, and MBA/MPH and is known for her love of philosophy. She specializes in yoga and meditation for babies through teens and meditation and philosophy. Through philosophy, her goal is to masterfully detail the texts of yoga tradition in a digestible way and guide students to create a modern actionable plan from all of the sage advice.  As a yoga educator, Pooja often leads kids yoga teacher training programs in local schools for staff and teachers.
