Take a deep dive into the chakras with your YTA community!

Using Anodea Judith's Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to Self (EBWM) and Wheels of Life: A User's Guide to the Chakras (WOL) as our source material, each of our monthly discussions will focus on a single chakra. We will discuss our own understanding of these energy centers and how we experience them on and off the mat. We will have group discussion as well as breakout sessions for more intimate connections in smaller groups that will remain the same throughout the series.

We will meet on the following Mondays at 6:30–8:00PM:

    • January 27, Introductions
    • February 24, Root Chakra (Muladhara), Earth
    • March 24, Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana), Water
    • April 28, Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura), Fire
    • June 2, Heart Chakra (Anahata), Love
    • June 30, Throat Chakra (Vissudha), Sound
    • July 28. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna), Light
    • August 25, Crown Chakra (Sahasrara), Thought

To ensure confidentiality, sessions will not be recorded.

Please read each chakra's chapter in both books in advance of its meeting. If time is limited, EBWM has more background information and explains how each chakra is linked to a developmental stage and other Western social/psychological theories; WOL provides more detailed methods (yoga and otherwise) to balance each chakra.

    About the books:

In Eastern Body, Western Mind, chakra authority Anodea Judith brought a fresh approach to the yoga-based Eastern chakra system, adapting it to the Western framework of Jungian psychology, somatic therapy, childhood developmental theory, and metaphysics and applying the chakra system to important modern social realities and issues such as addiction, codependence, family dynamics, sexuality, and personal empowerment.

Each chapter focuses on a single chakra, starting with a description of its characteristics and then exploring its particular childhood developmental patterns, traumas and abuses, and how to heal and maintain balance.

Anodea Judith's classic introduction to the chakra system, Wheels of Life takes you on a powerful journey through progressively transcendent levels of consciousness. View this ancient metaphysical system through the light of new metaphors, ranging from quantum physics to child development.

Learn how to explore and balance your own chakras using poetic meditations and simple yoga movements―along with gaining spiritual wisdom, you'll experience better health, more energy, enhanced creativity, and the ability to manifest your dreams.

You can purchase the books at Bookshop.org (choose an independent bookstore to benefit before purchasing) or ThriftBooks, or order directly from a local bookstore

Anodea Judith, Ph.D., has been called a prophet for our time. A globally recognized teacher, speaker, healer, and writer on the intersection of personal and collective awakening, her passion for the realization of our potential matches her concern for humanity’s impending crises—her fervent wish that we “wake up in time.”

Anodea holds master’s and doctoral degrees in psychology and health. She is a 500-hour E-RYT) and a therapist with lifelong studies in somatic psychology, mythology, history, sociology, systems theory, and mystic spirituality.

Anodea is best known for her groundbreaking work reviving the chakra system of ancient yoga, and its profound correlation to human psychology, cultural evolution, and the downward process of manifestation. Her award-winning and best-selling books have gained worldwide recognition with over a million books in print in 18 languages.

Delve into the anatomy, physiology, psychology, and philosophy behind our magnificent nervous system!

We'll also explore specific yoga practices designed to support its overall well-being, aiming to bring balance to all levels of our being – from our cells to our organ systems.

The central nervous system plays a vital role as the body's primary information distributor and significantly influences the mind. Through yoga practices such as asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, and dhyana, we can strengthen the support our bodies need to maintain and empower this crucial master system. A healthy nervous system allows us to thrive in all aspects of our lives.

This workshop will establish a foundational understanding of the nervous system's extensive and interconnected nature. Following this, we will work on developing personalized plans and practices to address imbalances or the need for a "reboot." Recognizing that each individual's life and experiences are unique, we will explore how different needs arise at various times and in varying degrees. Ultimately, a balanced nervous system is essential for everyone.

These three hours together will be filled with valuable tips, tools, and perspectives to help you discover exactly what you need to support your nervous system health.

A recording will be made available to all registrants for two weeks following the workshop.

    Recommended props:

    Yoga mat, blocks, and blanket.

NOTE: Please be aware that we cannot control the temperature of the studio at Club Fit, and it can run cold. Please dress appropriately in layers and bring a blanket, hat, socks, etc. if you are sensitive to the cold. Thank you for your understanding.

Luke Ketterhagen was raised in rural Wisconsin by his parents—a couple of ex-hippies—an educator and a nurse. Their home was imbued with a passion for spirituality and wellness, driven by a longing to create a community of like-minded people. This love of knowledge and all things natural was a catalyst for Luke.  After graduating magna cum laude with a degree in biomedical sciences from Marquette University, Luke immersed himself in the studies and practices of the Himalayan Tradition. He spent seven years in residence at the Himalayan Institute to study with his teacher, yoga and meditation master Pandit Rajmani Tigunait. This fueled Luke’s passion to share this powerful knowledge with others. Trained in the yoga teacher program in August of 1999, Luke became part of the teaching faculty at the Himalayan Institute. Luke and his wife, Kourtney, proceeded to open yoga studios in Dallas, TX, the Hudson Valley in NY, and in Venice, CA, where they hosted traditional fire offerings (havan) to support the propagation of benevolent forces throughout the world. Luke continued to travel and train teachers internationally, from the Grand Cayman Islands and Dominican Republic to Brussels and the UK. Inspired by his first visit to India during the Maha Kumbha Mela, Luke founded Experience India, a cultural and spiritual excursion to help others to see outside of their world, expand their view, and create an understanding of the connection we have with people all over the world. A founding teacher on the platform, Luke has created content for YogaInternational.com since 2007 and has amassed a library of 100+ yoga classes, guided relaxations and meditations, and workshops.

In addition to leading retreats at the Himalayan Institute, Luke facilitates yoga teacher training programs to help studios build community. His website, www.LukeKetterhagen.com has a relaxation you can download for free.

Luke and his wife Kourtney live on their organic blueberry farm in southwest Michigan. Each summer they help continue the family's 57 year legacy of delivering “little drops of blue medicine” to the world while their two young adult children attend college and strive toward their dreams.

Teach yoga with confidence and compassion to students in pain using a multidisciplinary, science-informed approach.

Back pain is one of the top reasons people walk into a yoga class—but how prepared are you to help them?

This supportive and practical workshop bridges the gap between yoga tradition and modern science, giving yoga teachers the tools, confidence, and clarity they need to safely and effectively work with back-pained students. Drawing on the holistic, multidisciplinary Retrain Back Pain method and combining the skill sets included in Dinneen’s Back Rehab Boss and Back in Balance online trainings, this three-hour session offers both insight and practical strategies to enhance your teaching.

We’ll address common myths and misinformation about yoga and back pain, outline the red flags every yoga teacher should know, and explore how to refer out appropriately.

You'll also learn why nervous system regulation is key to pain relief—and why belly breathing might not be the best choice.

    Expect to actively practice:

    • Safe yoga substitutions for students in pain
    • Safe core strengthening exercises
    • Stretches that actually help
    • Better breathing for back pain

Whether you're leading group classes or private sessions, this workshop will equip you with actionable, science-informed tools to serve this population with greater confidence, empathy, and effectiveness, including:

    • A clearer understanding of pain science and movement safety
    • Practical breath and movement tools to use immediately
    • "Red flag" knowledge and referral skills
    • Substitution strategies for common yoga poses
    • Confidence in your role as a compassionate, non-fixing guide
This is a unique opportunity to deepen your teaching, grow your skill set, and make your classes more inclusive and supportive for the many students experiencing back pain.

A recording will be made available to all registrants for two weeks following the workshop.
