Teach yoga with confidence and compassion to students in pain using a multidisciplinary, science-informed approach.

Back pain is one of the top reasons people walk into a yoga class—but how prepared are you to help them?

This supportive and practical workshop bridges the gap between yoga tradition and modern science, giving yoga teachers the tools, confidence, and clarity they need to safely and effectively work with back-pained students. Drawing on the holistic, multidisciplinary Retrain Back Pain method and combining the skill sets included in Dinneen’s Back Rehab Boss and Back in Balance online trainings, this three-hour session offers both insight and practical strategies to enhance your teaching.

We’ll address common myths and misinformation about yoga and back pain, outline the red flags every yoga teacher should know, and explore how to refer out appropriately.

You'll also learn why nervous system regulation is key to pain relief—and why belly breathing might not be the best choice.

Expect to actively practice:

  • Safe yoga substitutions for students in pain
  • Safe core strengthening exercises
  • Stretches that actually help
  • Better breathing for back pain

Whether you're leading group classes or private sessions, this workshop will equip you with actionable, science-informed tools to serve this population with greater confidence, empathy, and effectiveness, including:

  • A clearer understanding of pain science and movement safety
  • Practical breath and movement tools to use immediately
  • "Red flag" knowledge and referral skills
  • Substitution strategies for common yoga poses
  • Confidence in your role as a compassionate, non-fixing guide
This is a unique opportunity to deepen your teaching, grow your skill set, and make your classes more inclusive and supportive for the many students experiencing back pain.

A recording will be made available to all registrants for two weeks following the workshop.
